One of the added bits of luxury with a garage door is having it open with remote access. If your remote has lost access somehow or you have a new remote, you will need to program it to work with your system. We often get asked about how to do it, with many people thinking it will be a complicated process, but it is actually very easy! Our guide will explain how to change the code for a Merlin 2.0, a popular motor for a tilt or panel lift/sectional garage door.
If you want to sync or add a new remote, then follow these easy steps:
- Pull the cover off the back of the motor.
- Press the Coding button (small yellow button under the row of terminals) and make sure the red light next to it turns on.
- With your compatible remote, press the button once and make sure the light is flashing. The light on the motor will then turn off.
- Test that it had worked by pressing the button on the remote to have your garage door open/close.
You can see Ryan from our team at Doors Direct sync a remote in a video here.
Doors Direct has a wide range of motors that come with remotes and wall units. We only stock the best motors that are made with the highest quality parts. Long gone are the motors that will wake up the neighbours! Our motors are whisper quiet and energy efficient. We also have motors that come with a battery backup. These are handy in the event of a power cut.
You should choose a motor that is suited to your door. Some people want to go for the biggest motor with the most power, but it isn’t always suitable and will end up costing more as it won’t be very energy efficient if you have a lightweight door. There are many reasons why you should choose a motorised garage door like a Merlin 2.0. The biggest one is the safety it adds. Many have an infrared beam that goes from one side to the other. If this beam is interrupted, then the door will stop moving, preventing it from hitting or shutting on anyone or anything. If you have young children or pets, then this is ideal. Also, with a remote system, you don’t need to worry about keys. You only need the remote, which you will have with you, or even use a keypad entry. This will make it harder for someone to break in. Garage doors that are not motorised are a lot of hard work. You have to get out of your car to open and close it, and they can slam easily. Prevent that with the ease of a motorised garage door system!
Choosing a motorised unit is convenient and uncomplicated, even when it comes to reprogramming a remote, as we have demonstrated. The whole process is very simple, and you will be able to operate your garage door by remote again in no time. If you are unsure or have any questions, then give Doors Direct a call.
